he River Lodge is located in the middle of a vast natural playground with the abundance of waterfalls, streams, lakes and rivers. The Tuckasegee River flows in front of the inn and is stocked with a variety of freshwater trout, such as rainbow, brown and speckled. For fly fishing, North Carolina offers some of the best mountain streams in the country.
Smoky Mountains on the Fly (828-586-4787), a licensed guide service caters to both the experienced angler as well as the newcomer to this exciting sport. Willy Cope, your guide, will instruct you on casting techniques, entomology, knot tying, fly selection, reading water and equipment overview.
The waterways in our area afford you the opportunity to go whitewater rafting, tubing, canoeing or kayaking. To take advantage of our lakes and river call TJ's Water Adventures (828-293-5110) Reservations are recommended.

Want to take in the sights on horseback? Then you will want to ride with Arrowmont Stables (828-743-3753). Ride majestic mountaintops, picturesque valleys and babbling brooks. Just minues from our inn.
For golf, there's Trillium Links in nearby Glenville. And the Biltmore Estate, the state's most popular attraction, is only an hour away, in Asheville
The area is rich with waterfalls and trails for hiking and mountain biking. In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park alone there are more than 800 miles of hiking trails. American Hikes offers guided nature walks and history hikes in the Park, March thru November.
For outdoor adventure, there's whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River and winter skiing and snow tubing in nearby Maggie Valley.

For railroad enthusiasts, the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad offers scenic excursions and a gourmet dinner train. After riding the Dillsboro train, you can visit Smoky Mountain Trains, in Bryson City, with one of the largest Lionel model train layouts in the South.
In nearby Cherokee you can visit the Indian Reservation, experience the outdoor drama, Unto These Hills, and visit Harrah's Cherokee Casino. Cherokee is also the southern terminus of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Maggie Valley and Cherokee offer several music and dinner theatres.And our area of Western North Carolina is great for antique and collectible shopping, arts and crafts exhibits, flea markets and gem mining. Just ask the innkeepers for suggestions on drives and day trips.
